JOEY2

Howdy y'all, my name is Joey Mathews, and my company is 31 Films.

Born and raised as a proud Texan, I’ve been producing wedding films for 8yrs.

I grew up as a musician and was always interested in filmmaking, especially music videos.  I had always looked at wedding videographers in the same light as used car salesman… then it hit me, why can’t wedding videographers be as much of a rockstar behind the lens as a music video producer?  So I was off to the races!!!

In my hands were a Sony VX-2000, a G4 Powermac, and the latest copy of iMovie!  Look out AMERICA!

Ok, ok… so I actually sucked for a really long time:)  Thru sucking continually for years I slowly, thru experience, became better and better.  I was always interested in creating something that had a certain “look”.  You know what I mean…the difference between the local news station and an artistic film.

After 8 years in business, 31Films is comprised of 5 shooters, 3 editors, and a pistol whipping studio manager.  We mainly shoot weddings as well as produce cinematic stories for churches and non-profits. We shoot film (super 8mm and ultra 16mm) and are typically seen breaking our backs lugging heavy 35mm adapters in our quest for “THE LOOK”.

Whenever people ask me for advice on how to be successful as a videographer, I tell them 3 things:

  1. Don’t ever think you’ve arrived.
  2. Be nice to everyone.
  3. Whatever project you are working on, even for free, do it with excellence.

That is my magic formula and I feel like the luckiest man alive.  I’m doing what I am passionate about doing, and more than money or success, that is everything!

I look forward to sharing with you lessons I've learned in running my video business and in seeing you at IN[FOCUS] 2010!

Joey.
