“Following Jones’ system of editing, I’ve cut my edited time by at least 10-15 hours per project and feel much better about the work I’m producing. It now has a story, substance, and a life, and I do too!” -Â Meghan Simone, New Hampshire
Greetings Video Professionals the world wide over.
In the coming months, I am going to be on tour to share how studios can speed up your editing to reduce your backlog so you can do more with your business and your life.
Before I come to a town near you, I’m releasing 3 time saving tips on the habits we need to employ before we jump into our super efficient workflows.  Today’s tip has to do with making Parkinson’s Law work for you.  I first learned about this concept from the book, The Four Hour Work Week, which I highly recommend.
You’ll be surprised how much setting a timer can speed you up! Â Give it a try, and let me know in the comments below how it is working for you.

Great stuff Jones!
The best solutions to problems are often the easiest to apply, thanks for the kick up the @ss. You’re an asset to the In-Focus group & good luck at Austin 2010 :)
Cheers,

Ok Chris I’m going to try this right now. Just made my little list of goals and when I’m finished eating my pizza I’ll check the time and start. I’m only going to do 30 minutes though because it’s a Friday night and real people wouldn’t even be working right now. I’ll let you know how it goes…
Another great tool I use for a timer you can get as a widget on your dashboard (mac). It looks just like the egg timer in a kitchen. You can type in what to set it for (say progress), so when the timer goes off the lady comes through the speakers saying, “Time to check the progress” – she’s very helpful :)
In the heat of summer wedding season, I am proud to say, thanks to Chris Jones I’m only one wedding out – I’m editing the wedding I shot last week moving into the next week (and I’ve done 22 so far this year, 15 more to go) – it feels great! I hope I can keep it up as I move into a few August weeks with 2 weddings each week!
So I went to give it a try and my compueter crashed then I had to go out of town, so I’ve as of yet not had the opportunity to implement your suggestions. Soon though!
