To Beat the Recession, You Gotta Learn From the Best.

In one of my recent group coaching sessions, I invited 4 time EventDV All-Star and the “Mayor” Steve Moses of Vantage Point Custom Films to speak with me candidly and honestly about how he has been able to survive multiple recessions in one of the most competitive areas in the country.

For the past 25 years. He has been able to stay relevant, fresh, and influential when most videographers who have been around for that long become stale and lose their relativity.

In this interview between me and Steve, you’ll learn practical ways to stay ahead of your competition, stay in love with what you do for a living, and most importantly, MAKE MONEY and profit. Take a listen, my hope is that the next hour you invest by listening in will be one of the best investments in time you have made for your business.

Getting rid of unwanted ambient noise with Soundtrack Pro and Final Cut Pro

My first official blog has me stepping right into the thick of it.  All of us have had babies crying, nature sounds (which sometimes is a good thing), and even humans mumbling in your recorded audio.  The deal is you don’t have to keep it in the final edit!

I go through a pretty simple process using Soundtrack Pro and Final Cut to get rid of unwanted sprinkler noise.

You do need to go through these steps EXACTLY as I’ve done here.  Deviating from any of the steps or take them out of order makes your work worthless. But the caveat is that once you practice this workflow, your audio will be that much more spectacular.

Enjoy, and if you would like me to discuss any other audio ideas, please let me know.

Thanks!

IN[FOCUS] IN[TRODUCTION] – Jeffrey and Tara Haney

Hey there!!!

My name is Jeffrey and I’m the owner of Lights in the Attic Cinematic Wedding Films. We’re located in the beautiful Pacific Northwest in Salem, Oregon. We’re a husband and wife team that shoots in HD as well as vintage Super 8mm film.  I am truly psyched to be able to blog and get to know so many of these guys and girls whose work inspires me.  I’ll leave out names for now!

I come from a film and television background and thought nothing about doing wedding films until 2007 when a friend asked me to film his friend’s wedding.   During the filming, and more specifically during the editing, I fell in love with the story of these two people and how their most important day unfolded, and I was hooked on wedding videography then and there.

I started Lights in the Attic part-time while I was still working as a producer/director at Comcast Spotlight.  Then in December 2008, I was one of seven producers laid off in a cost-cutting move.  My five year plan to take LITA full time was now shortened to two months.  Needless to say, it was the best thing that’s ever happened to me.  I launched LITA full time and haven’t looked back (even though I sometimes suffer through the crappy economy and DIY brides).

I see too many wedding films here in the Pacific Northwest that the videographers don’t pay much attention to their audio, and that’s just not acceptable.  My posts will be to help/enlighten/assist you folks in making your audio that much better!  Audio shouldn’t be seen as a second thought to your workflow, but as something just as integral as your shots, story, and color correction, so I will be doling out tips and tricks involving audio, specifically with Final Cut Pro and Soundtrack Pro.

So hang on and enjoy the ride. I’m looking very forward to becoming part of the IN[FOCUS] blog team and meeting you at IN[FOCUS] 2011!

If you have any topics regarding audio, please contact me @ lightsintheattic@mac.com.

Cheers!
