Direct Sound Extreme Isolation Headphone Review

ear horn 2a

If your office is anything like ours – it can be hard to block out background noise. We purchased the Direct Sound Extreme Isolation EX-29W headphones to help us stay better focused on our edits and to hopefully increase our productivity at the office.  These headphones are lightweight, but at the same time provide 29db of passive noise reduction – meaning they don’t require a battery.  They are well priced at $129US and have a very convenient 9′ or 40″ cord (I said incorrectly in the video that they come in 12′ lengths as well).

The only downside I can suggest is that when you first try them on – they are a bit tight – however – they do loosen after a while.

Direct Sound is an American company based in St. Louis that has been in business for over 18 years. About 10 years ago – they were the industry leader that other companies such as Bose looked up to. Dr. Dre did not make headphones back then – he was too busy making sweet rhymes.  The thing that made me purchase these headphones was that I read a few negative reviews about them so I emailed the company and asked them to respond to the criticisms.  The biggest issues people had had to do with quality of components and that the company had begun lowering its’ standards. The President of the company returned my email within a few hours and adequately assured me that they have changed some of their methods –  but that they continue to have the highest standards and they offer a full money back guarantee regardless of where you purchased them if you were not happy. I appreciated the fact that he took the time to respond to me personally and as a business owner – that type of service matters to me.

Some quick points borrowed from the manufacturer’s website:

  • Listen to music in a quiet setting without disturbing people next to you.
  • Listen to music while your neighbors mow their lawn.
  • Increase concentration by blocking out distracting noises.
  • Lightweight comfort can be worn for hours without fatigue.
  • Lightweight, extra long, 9 ft cord or the convenient 40 inch cord

I’m going to give these headphones a 4.5 out of a 5. A huge plus for the amount of noise reduction and the fact that they don’t require batteries to work. A slight point loss for not being comfortable right out of the box.

Have a great day!
